1 galleryLiverpool is an old port city established in the 11th century. Later its interconnected dock system was the most advanced in the world giving access to sea 24 hours per day by isolating it from the river tides. Also, North America exploited Liverpool harbor in the movement of immigrants and slaves. Liverpool was the home port for ill-starred RMS Titanic and other grand liners which were used by immigrants. The Merseyside Maritime Museum and The International Slavery Museum are the places where the visitor can study these topics. The Beatles and football were the two things which made Liverpool famous and tourist spots. The Beatles Story museum lies on the famous Albert Dock that houses restaurants, shops, hotels as well as the Tate Liverpool. Today The Maritime Mercantile City is on the UNESCO's List of World Heritage in danger.

11 imagesFrom the beginning cafés or coffee houses have been the social meeting point of the people where ever it was established. The first café was opened in Damascus In 1530. The cafés in the Arabic world were meeting points for men where they could play games, discuss different matters and entertain themselves with performances. The art has always been an inseparable part of café life. How many novels, essays, and poems have been written in cafés? J. K. Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter novel in her sister's coffee house. How many revolutions have been planned in their dark corners? How many romances have born?

1 galleryTurkey is a curious mix of the west and the east, making it exciting and also photographic. One could consider Turkey an Islamic country, but even in that, many people in the western part are pretty liberal about the religion. At the same time, the folk of the east is far more conservative.

2 galleriesMore than any other African country Kenya has formed the opinions of the Westerners about Africa. Long time this land of unique natural beauty was only a source of slaves, gold, and ivory. Some parts of the area were unresearchable because of the lack of roads. It was also a hostile environment; there was a saying, "If you are going to Maasai land, take ten thousand men or make your will." When the British started to establish farms and build railroads and roads, the international tourists began to arrive in the wake. This land of savannah, mountain highlands, and high plains provided a fantastic range of habitats for the East African wildlife and an equally wide choice of options for great white hunters. 'Safari' was a name for a hunting trip – the word means journey in Swahili. The opinion about this land and Africa, in general, was formed by several fiction movies and novels, which presented Kenya as an unspoiled land where a white man could fulfill his passion for adventure and possession of women. Recently the film Out of Africa has vastly increased the interest and tourism in Kenya. It remains to be seen if there is any spectacular wildlife left after twenty years from now. The only hope is that Kenya protects the nature because it is the backbone of the tourism industry in Kenya. © Copyright 2016 Seppo Olkinuora. All rights reserved.
